The Rochelle Little League 14U Baseball All-Stars saw their run to the Illinois Little League Junior League State Championship tournament end on their home field Friday night, falling 13-11 to LaSalle in a second round matchup. Rochelle lost to Chicago East Side 19-9 in the first round Wednesday night.

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Little League 14U Baseball All-Stars saw their run to the Illinois Little League Junior League State Championship tournament end on their home field Friday night, falling 13-11 to LaSalle in a second round matchup. Rochelle lost to Chicago East Side 19-9 in the first round Wednesday night. 

Rochelle recorded its first two runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning on RBI singles by Frankie Pelan and Ryan Senne that brought the game to a 4-2 deficit. Deegan Schabacker and Mark Green scored in the inning. 

Rochelle tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Reece Harris scored on a ground ball single by Parker Slattengren. Harris stole second earlier in the at-bat to put himself in scoring position. 

Down 13-3 headed into the seventh inning, Rochelle didn’t go down easily. The 14U All-Stars scored eight runs on RBI singles by Ethan Goodwin, Caden Goodwin, Jack Pavlak, Frankie Pelan, Senne and Green that were paired with a two-run double by Gavin Neale. 

Ethan Goodwin started off the game pitching for Rochelle, throwing four innings and striking out six batters and walking three. He threw 87 pitches with 50 strikes. Pelan came in in relief and threw two and-two-thirds innings, striking out one batter on 58 pitches and 31 strikes. Neale pitched a third of an inning in relief. 

LaSalle started off the game with two runs in the first inning and followed that with two in the third, one in the fourth and five in the fifth. It took three runs in the seventh to establish the 10-run lead before Rochelle’s late charge. 

Pelan finished with three hits and three RBIs to pace Rochelle. Neale hit a triple in the fourth inning and finished with two RBIs. Rochelle finished with 13 hits to LaSalle’s eight. The All-Stars stole 14 bases with Pelan stealing three. 

Rochelle finished with a 4-3 record in All-Star play with wins over Rock Falls, Twin Rivers and Sterling twice.
