BYRON — The Rochelle Wrestling Club sent 16 athletes to the IKWF Byron Regional over the weekend, with eight individuals in the Intermediate, Novice and Senior Divisions advancing to the sectional in Rochelle.
Three RWC wrestlers in the Tots Division won regional titles including Wells Millard (2-0), Elliot Huff (2-0) and Nehemiah Andronic (2-0). Dominic Escatel (2-0) earned a regional title in the Bantam Division.
Teddy Millard finished first in the 64 Intermediate Division bracket with a 4-0 record. Millard won by 15-0 technical fall over Stillman Valley’s Izayah Marx before scoring a 6-4 decision over Lena’s Quinn Peight and a 3-2 decision over Byron’s Corben Considine. Millard defeated Cohen Considine by 5-1 decision for the title.
Benjamin Morris finished first in the 125 Intermediate Division bracket with a 2-0 record. Morris earned a 9-1 major decision over Harvard’s Colton Moreno and won by fall over Belvidere’s Brian Wadsworth.
Zachary Johnson finished first in the 100 Novice Division with a 2-0 record. Johnson scored a 9-0 major decision over Byron’s Cael O’Horo before earning a fall over Rockton’s Evan Musil for the title.
Brandin Kirk finished first in the 154 Novice Division bracket with a 2-0 record. Kirk took down Polo’s Ethan Dewey with a 6-0 decision before edging Belvidere’s Caleb Gallano with a 5-1 decision for the title.
Elias Andronic (1-1) placed second in the 40-44 Tots Division bracket and Chase Marruffo placed second in the 60-62 Bantam Division bracket. Tony Milburn (0-1) took third in the 103 Senior Division bracket.
Braxton Rosenthal finished fourth in the 59 Intermediate Division bracket with a 1-2 record, winning by 3-2 decision over Durand’s Nolan Ford in the consolation semifinals to clinch a sectional berth. Garrett Miller finished fourth in the 115 Intermediate Division bracket with a 2-2 record, beating Byron’s Jaxson Mayborne by 4-2 sudden victory and scoring a 5-0 decision over Durand’s Penelope Anderson in the consolation semis.
Quentin Ansteth took fifth in the 90 Intermediate Division bracket with a 3-2 record, topping Durand’s Brock Lilja by 9-0 major decision before pinning Rockford’s Shawn Foltz and Rockton’s Liana Cassioppi. Other regional participants from the RWC include Vaughn Manning (2-2) and Samuel Navejas (0-2).
