The Rochelle Wrestling Club opened its season at the 2021 Xtreme Challenge in Byron on Sunday. Fifteen athletes competed in the event, with two athletes finishing first in their respective brackets including Tots Division wrestlers Elias Andronic and Elliot Huff.

BYRON — The Rochelle Wrestling Club opened its season at the 2021 Xtreme Challenge in Byron on Sunday. Fifteen athletes competed in the event, with two athletes finishing first in their respective brackets including Tots Division wrestlers Elias Andronic and Elliot Huff.

Andronic (3-0) took first in the 42-43 Tots Division bracket, winning by fall against Hononegah’s Madox Houser and Belvidere’s Bobby Faraher before scoring a 16-4 major decision over DeKalb’s Jay Lovett in the third round. Huff (3-0) finished first in the 52-53 Bantam Division bracket, beating DeKalb’s Declan Williams by 12-5 decision and Harlem’s Adam Larsen by 4-1 decision before pinning Harvard’s Anthony Gonzalez during the third round.

Three Rochelle wrestlers placed second in their respective brackets including Wells Millard, Vaughn Manning and Zachary Johnson. Millard (2-1) took second in the 43-45 Tots Division bracket, winning by fall over North Boone’s Thorin Anderson and Princeton’s Natalie Stewart.

Manning (2-1) finished second in the 71-73 Intermediate Division bracket, scoring pins against DeKalb’s Adric Becker and Richmond’s Brady O’Connor. Johnson (2-1) placed second in the 93-96 Novice Division bracket, pinning Sterling’s Ethan Schommer and Dakota’s Zakkary Vincent.

Five Rochelle wrestlers brought home third-place finishes including Felix Belmonte, Cole Albers, Teddy Millard, Garrett Miller and Axel Alsop. Belmonte (1-2) took third in the 56-57 Bantam Division bracket with a 15-8 decision over Stillman Valley’s Marley Spain. Albers (1-2) finished third in the 66-68 Bantam Division bracket with a fall over Harlem’s Ty Haese.

Millard (1-2) placed third in the 61-67 Intermediate Division bracket with a fall over LaSalle-Peru’s Stephanie Hawkins. Miller (1-2) took third in the 109-110 Intermediate Division bracket with a fall over Harvard’s Ayden Rojas. Alsop (1-2) finished third in the 95-101 Novice Division bracket with a fall over North Boone’s Aiden Perry. Five wrestlers finished fourth including Nehemiah Andronic, Gavin Smith, Quentin Ansteth, Tony Milburn and Deegan Schabacker.
