The Rochelle varsity wrestling team split its triangular meet with Streator and East Peoria this past weekend. The Hubs won 42-24 over Streator while falling 42-36 against East Peoria to move to 3-7 on the season.

STREATOR — The Rochelle varsity wrestling team split its triangular meet with Streator and East Peoria this past weekend. The Hubs won 42-24 over Streator while falling 42-36 against East Peoria to move to 3-7 on the season. Rochelle will face Oregon and Plano on the road Tuesday evening.

Rochelle took advantage of its full lineup against Streator, with five wrestlers including seniors Jacob Fore (152), Pedro Lopez (220) and juniors Zeke Horn (160), Bryan Garza (182) and Gavin Ansteth (195) receiving forfeits. Rafael Pantoja won by fall over Rochelle sophomore Ivan Pineda at 106 and Josh Carter earned a forfeit at 132 before Hub junior Keegan Davis pinned Seth Miles at 138.

Freshman Osiris Lenker won by fall against Brayden Deats at 145. Streator claimed two more wins (Logan Christensen pinning Rochelle sophomore Noah Messer at 170 and Alex Granados winning by fall against Hub senior James Rodriguez at 285) but the Bulldogs couldn’t make up for their forfeited losses.

East Peoria excelled at the lighter weights, with Mark Schulze pinning Ivan Pineda at 106 and both Jakson Miller and Levi Robinson earning forfeits at 113 and 120. Rochelle sophomore Grant Thompson picked up a 5-2 decision over Jake Spokley at 126 before Dom Fugit took a forfeit at 132 for East Peoria.

Tristen Westbay pinned Keegan Davis at 138 before Austin Seaman won by fall against Osiris Lenker at 145. Jacob Fore helped Rochelle bounce back with a pin against Zach Eaton at 152 before Riley Windell won by fall over Zeke Horn for East Peoria. Noah Messer edged Tad Hoskins by 3-2 decision before four straight Rochelle pins from sophomore Ben Harvey (over Dom Roberts), Bryan Garza (over Garrett Bridges), Gavin Ansteth (Luke Brooks) and James Rodriguez (over Ty Stuckley).
