Susan Englert, 68, of rural Creston, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, September 11, 2024, near Oakley, Kansas. 

Paul Brian Fridge, 56, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 13, 2024 at his home in Dixon, Illinois. 

On Sept. 14 at approximately 2:38 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 5,000 block of North Freeport Road.  After investigation, deputies placed Ivan Rivera, 27, of Freeport under arrest for an active failure to appear Stephenson County warrant for trespassing.  Rivera was transported to county line and relayed to Stephenson County deputies where he was held in lieu of bond. 

On Sept. 13 at 1:22 p.m. Mario Reynosa-Montalvo, 27, of Rochelle was arrested on an Ogle County warrant and transferred.

The Rochelle Chamber of Commerce recently presented its Lawn of the Week award for the week of Sept. 14 to Ben and Jen Manning. The couple received a sign and a $25 Rochelle ACE Hardware gift card, presented by Rochelle Ace Hardware Manager Jesse Lopez.

At its monthly meeting Monday, the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the $34,174 purchase of a forestry mower from Bobcat of Janesville. 

At its monthly meeting Monday, the Rochelle Township High School District Board of Education held a public hearing for and unanimously approved its 2024-2025 budget.

On Saturday, Sept. 14, Fiesta Hispana was held in downtown Rochelle. The event, in its sixth year, celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month.

Over the weekend of Sept. 13-15, the Annual Creston Booster Days festival was held in Creston. Friday featured a steak fry in the park, a beer garden, Skinners’ Amusements and The Killer Bs on Stage.

It was in 1945 that Lily’s father decided that migrant labor habits would keep his family from gaining roots and his kids from going to the same school with the same friends. He decided to live in one place like a normal family. That was when Natalia, Texas lost a family and Rochelle gained one. Lily was only seven when her family came to Rochelle. Because she spoke English, she spent much of the rest of her life helping other families trying to make the change from a migrant life to a more permanent existence in a new community.

The Rochelle Hub fresh-soph football team suffered its first loss of the season on Monday, when the purple and white hosted Byron in nonconference play. 

The Rochelle Township High School varsity cross country team headed south for the First to the Finish Invitational at Detweiller Park on Saturday.

Rochelle senior Taelynn Rodeghero was a freshman when she shared the volleyball court with former Lady Hub standout and current Eastern Illinois University athlete Sylvia Hasz.

The St. Paul Lutheran School cross county team raced in the 1.5-mile Lancer Invitational in Freeport over the weekend. Eight Crusader runners participated, with Esam Farraj and Reed Rowley earning medals for their  efforts in the varsity boys race.

Success off the tee box and on the greens enabled sophomore Alex Dyer to take second place individually and lead the Rochelle Hub varsity golf team to fourth out of 13 schools during the Aurora Central Catholic Charger Invitational at Phillips Park Golf Course on Saturday.

Junior Kevin Orozco and senior Alberto Casillas each scored two goals to lead the Rochelle Hub varsity soccer team during Saturday’s nonconference match against DeKalb.

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team took two of the three doubles matches during its nonconference road match against Streator on Saturday afternoon.

Dominance on offense remained the theme for the Rochelle Hub varsity football team during its nonconference matchup against the Highland Bulldogs on Friday night.

On Sept. 10 at 3:12 p.m. deputies initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Illinois Route 251 and East Illinois Route 64. After a brief investigation the passenger, Alphonse Delatorre, 53, of Rochelle, was arrested for an outstanding warrant from McHenry County. Delatorre was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he is held in lieu of bond.

On Sept. 9 at 10:52 p.m. Timothy J.G. Mendez, 41, of Steward was cited for no valid registration. He signed a promise to comply and was given an Oct. 4 Rochelle court date.
