There were no injuries after the Rochelle Fire Department, Ogle-Lee Fire Protection District and Rochelle Police Department responded to a dryer fire at Family Laundry at 1065 N. Caron Road on Thursday morning, RFD Lt. Zach Prewett said.

Senior Alivia Henkel wasn’t about to let the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity basketball team squander an opportunity for its first Interstate 8 Conference win of the season Wednesday evening, when the purple and white faced off against the LaSalle-Peru Cavaliers.

Brian Daniel Young was born on March 9, 1970 in Rochelle, Illinois. He passed away on December 30, 2023 after a very sudden decline in his health. Brian was only 53 years of age.

Stillman Bank held its 59th annual Holiday Giveaway drawing on Dec. 22. The bank had a total of six winners throughout its six locations. The winners received either a beef quarter or pork half.

On Dec. 29 at 1:37 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop at South 7th Street and Lakeview Drive in Rochelle. After an investigation, Israel Ibarra, 35, from Rockford was arrested for no valid driver's license. Ibarra was released from the scene on a notice to appear.

On Dec. 28 at 12:09 a.m. Hector L. Flores, 34, of Rockford was arrested for driving while license suspended. He was released on a notice to appear with a Feb. 2 Rochelle court date.

At its Dec. 11 meeting, the Rochelle City Council approved an engineering agreement with Keith Engineering Design for $115,070 for an expansion of the solar plant at the Rochelle Municipal Utilities wastewater treatment plant.

The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team finished eighth out of 19 teams in the annual Dixon Toughman Tournament at Plum Hollow Lanes on Friday afternoon. Rochelle (9-6, 5-3 Interstate 8) scored 2,755 in the three-game opening round and ended the tournament with a final total of 6,335 after 18 baker games.

The Rochelle Lady Hub wrestlers competed in the annual Ottawa Girls Invitational on Thursday. Sophomore Cammyla Macias and junior Dempsey Atkinson each medaled with top-4 finishes in the tournament.

William (Bill) Kirchhofer passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 24, 2023 in his home at The Meadows in Franklin Grove, Illinois.

Dennis Gale Berg passed away at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL on December 25, 2023. He was born on December 22, 1950 in Harvard, Illinois. He was the son of Gale and Mary Ellen (O’Malley) Berg.

Donald B. Campbell, 88, of Galena, IL, died peacefully on December 22, 2023. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. Don, and Priscilla, who predeceased him in 2020, lived in the Galena Territory for over 25 years.
