Two gentlemen, Mr. Neff and Mr. Loomis, finally secured the land they needed to build their newest venture. The location was on Washington Street (today’s Lincoln Highway) across from the Milne and Loomis Lumber Yard. Construction began on a 50-foot by 84-foot skating rink at Lincoln Highway and Second Avenue.

The Rochelle Lady Hub tennis team has leaned on its senior class for both leadership and production over the last few seasons. That theme has remained consistent this fall, as the Lady Hubs currently roster 11 seniors, eight of which are starting at the varsity level.

The Rochelle Township High School varsity cross country team traveled west for the annual Rock River Run at Hoover Park in Sterling on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The Rochelle Hub fresh-soph football team scored five touchdowns during its 36-12 win over LaSalle-Peru on Friday evening.

The Rochelle Hubs didn’t let a tough defeat linger when they took the field for their Interstate 8 Conference road matchup against the LaSalle-Peru Cavaliers on Friday evening.

The Ogle County Health Department (OCHD) has confirmed the first positive bird for West Nile Virus (WNV) reported in Ogle County for 2024. A dead crow found in Rochelle tested positive for WNV after being sent to the IDPH laboratory for testing.

On Sept. 24 at approximately noon, deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 7,000 block of North River Road. After investigation, deputies placed Christy Oleson, 34, of Oregon under arrest for driving while license suspended. Oleson was released on a notice to appear at the scene and given a future court date.

On Sept. 25 at 2:38 a.m. Brayan Orozco Ramos, 23, of Rochelle was cited for no insurance. He signed a promise to comply and was given an Oct. 18 Rochelle court date.

Rochelle Township High School recently named its 2024 Homecoming Court candidates.

The Rochelle Area Community Foundation (RACF) recently announced the creation of The Todd Ackland Legacy Fund, established to celebrate the life and legacy of local pastor Todd Ackland.

Work is underway on a City of Rochelle project that will see the large water tower near the Illinois Route 251 overpass repainted and maintenanced, Rochelle Municipal Utilities Superintendent of Water/Water Reclamation Adam Lanning said Sept. 23. 

On Tuesday, the City of Rochelle and Rochelle Municipal Utilities held a ribbon cutting for their new operations campus at 1030 S. 7th St. The facility houses RMU’s electric and water crews and the city’s engineering department.

William (Bill, Billy, Mr. Nye, The Science Guy) Gore Nye Sr., beloved father, grandfather, friend and partner, passed away on July 11, 2024 at his home in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 82.

Staff at Northern Illinois University Lorado Taft Field Campus in Oregon received sad news last week. The beautiful outdoor education center will be closing effective Dec. 31, 2024, due to high maintenance and repair costs, according to NIU administrative officials. Although the campus is used for education, officials state that operating a youth camp has “minimal alignment with NIU’s current mission and goals.”

The St. Paul Lutheran School cross country team had two runners place during the Immanuel Lutheran Dundee Invitational on Wednesday evening.

Three members of the Rochelle Township High School varsity cross country team earned medals on Wednesday, when the runners competed in the annual Byron Invitational.
